"The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has initiated a health technology assessment (HTA) to inform COVID-19 vaccination policy in Ireland, at the request of the Department of Health. The assessment will evaluate potential changes to funded vaccination groups for the 2027–2028 campaign onward, based on updated NIAC recommendations from May 2025 that reflect SARS-CoV-2's transition to endemic status. HIQA will analyze epidemiological data, vaccine efficacy, safety, and economic impact of alternative strategies. Since September 2025, over 4,600 cases, 1,600 hospitalizations, and 90 deaths have been reported. A draft report will undergo public consultation before final submission to the Minister for Health and HSE."
