HIQA Recommends Expanding BowelScreen to Ages 50-54; RSV Immunisation Cost-Effective Only with Lower Prices (hiqa.ie)
- BowelScreen age expansion to 50-54 accepted by Minister.
- HIQA launches governance review of HSE screening services.
- RSV immunisation deemed safe but costly; price negotiation needed.
"HIQA's latest newsletter announces key developments: a health technology assessment led to a recommendation to extend BowelScreen to people aged 50-54, which the Minister for Health accepted. A new governance review of HSE screening services has been launched. HIQA will also assess adding breast density screening, congenital adrenal hyperplasia to newborn screening, and paediatric familial hypercholesterolaemia screening. On RSV immunisation for infants and older adults, HIQA found it safe and effective but costly, urging lower pricing for cost-effectiveness. HIQA signed an MOU with the Ombudsman for Children and engaged on the European Health Data Space."
