0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
  • Legislation effective 30 June 2026 enables electronic prescription retention
  • Three regulatory amendments cover medicinal products, controlled drugs, and pharmacy business record keeping
  • Electronic controlled drug registers and daily audit report changes included

"Ireland has passed legislation allowing community pharmacies to retain prescriptions electronically instead of printing them. Effective 30 June 2026, the new regulations cover electronic retention of prescriptions transmitted via Healthmail and the High Tech Hub, electronic controlled drug registers, and changes to daily audit reporting. The legislation follows the IPU White Paper (2024) and the Community Pharmacy Agreement 2025. The Electronic Record Keeping Implementation Group (ERKIG), including stakeholders, developed the changes. Pharmacy system updates are required before full adoption. The IPU will provide guidance and support."
