0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
  • NCPE recommends against HSE reimbursement of belzutifan at current price for VHL disease.
  • Drug deemed poor value for money; price reduction required for funding consideration.
  • Patient submission from VHL UK/Ireland included in HSE deliberation process.

"The National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics (NCPE) has assessed belzutifan (Welireg) for treating adult patients with von Hippel-Lindau disease who need therapy for associated renal cell carcinoma, CNS haemangioblastomas, or pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours when localised procedures are unsuitable. The NCPE recommended that the HSE should not fund belzutifan unless cost-effectiveness improves, deeming the current price too high for expected health benefits. A patient organisation submission from VHL UK/Ireland was considered. The HSE will make the final reimbursement decision."
