0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
  • HIQA review covers ten countries to inform Irish DAHR policy.
  • Most countries offer partial or full public funding for DAHR.
  • Eligibility, governance, and counselling provisions are similar across countries.

"HIQA has released a protocol and scoping review examining publicly-funded donor-assisted human reproduction (DAHR) services in ten countries: Australia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Scotland, Sweden, and Wales. The review aims to inform Irish policy development. It found that most countries offer at least partial public funding for DAHR, with similar eligibility criteria as other fertility treatments. Requirements include GP referral, legislation governing services, and counselling provision. The review excludes surrogacy arrangements. This work supports the Department of Health in considering a publicly-funded DAHR service for Ireland."
